*         2) School environment

We’ve been discussing, the school environment, our recent discussion has been based on acquiring bins on the school field.

o        ZM gave us some feedback from her meeting with Ms Tilley, regarding the bins. Telling us that the bins have already been purchased, however a location on the field is needed to place the bins.

In telling us that a location is needed we discussed where to place the bins on the field, here is our idea:

Playground

o        Future: Bins in hallways

    3) Uniform

Last week’s meeting, the School Council discussed that all house representatives are to go around all 6 form rooms of their house and converse with the form rooms regarding school uniform ideas.          2) Uniform

We elaborated on our discussion from last week regarding changing the school uniform which is our most recent project. Here are some more ideas that we came up with:

o        Open collar blouses for girls during summer term

o        Colour of trousers as well as colour of skirts for girls

o        Colour for blazer Lining

o        Optional merchandise for outdoor clothing

E.g. scarves, hats gloves

o         We came up with this idea, to prevent students from wearing inappropriate outdoor clothing on school premises

School Council Meeting Minutes (I) 21/01/10

Present:

Samuel Ankoma (SA), Rachel Chrystie (RC), Jemma Haughton (JH), Asa Haynes (AH), Kira Henry (KH), Emmanuel Larbi (EL), Michael Longdon (ML), Jenni Martin (JM), Zoe McConnell (ZM), Emmanuel Oleyede (EO), Simone Richardson (SR), Jacob Trappitt (JT), Reece Watson (RW).

Ms Slark

Apologies:

ML, JT were late, due to a meeting about a trip

*         1) Transforming Croydon Schools Workshop

We discussed the Transforming Croydon Schools workshops, in which the School Council have been taking part, as regards how effective they were. The workshop is based on making schools across Croydon more modern, with a more friendly feel, to students.

o       It allows us to identify areas within the school which we can work on for the next few years to improve it. Concern about what changes would be made from which current students, and not just future students, would benefit.

*        2) Uniform

We discussed the significance of the school uniform as to how we can improve it, with a past school body coming up with the idea of black school jumpers for KS4 students we want to change the school uniform. This is what we talked about:

o       Magnifying the Houses

As well as having ties we thought that we should have more noticeable accessories / features colour coded to the house pupils belong to

o       P.E. Kit

We also conversed over the P.E. kit which we would like to as well be colour coded with reference to the house. Especially due to the fact that this will be very handy during Sport inter-house competitions, etc.

o       Uniform Surgery

We thought that we should hold a Surgery with the topic of Uniform for we would also like an input from the school community, as to how we can improve our school uniform.

o       Each House representative will mention the surgery about school uniform and the school environment, during weekly assemblies as well as going round forms holding discussions during form time.

Next week:

§         House representatives around form rooms

Following week:

§         Surgery

o        Meeting started at 12:30pm and finished at 1:15pm

School Council Meeting Minutes 10/12/2009

o      Detention & Reward System

Mr Revie attended our meeting this week, with him being in charge of the Detention & Reward System. This was the main item on this week’s agenda. Here is what we discussed:

§         We believe that the cause of many detentions is as a result of some teacher’s leniency: Some are more lenient and some are stricter than others.

§         We also believe that some punishments are uncalled for

·        E.g.: planners being misplaced; home learning

·        Therefore we are thinking about removing these punishments from the system.

·        Mr Revie also talked about the new system which has been introduced with Year 9 before the end of term, which is the ‘STAND, PLAN, HAND, LEARN’system. The Year 9 students who are on the School Council who are, AH, ML, EO, SR, JT had given their feedback

o        Meeting started at 12:30pm and finished at 1:15pm

ALL VIEWS WERE DISCUSSED BUT NOTHING YET HAS BEEN AGREED UPON. WATCH THIS SPACE AND PERHAPS POST YOUR VIEWS.
